European Union (Provision of Food Information to Consumers) Regulations 2014
These Regulations give effect to Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2011 on the provision of food information to consumers. The Regulations revoke and replace the European Communities (Labelling, Presentation and Advertising of Foodstuffs) Regulations 2002 to 2013 and the European Communities (Nutrition Labelling for Foodstuffs) Regulations 2009.
The Regulations replace the existing rules on food labelling and introduce new measures for pre-packed foods including minimum font size for mandatory information, specifying the manner in which allergenic ingredients are listed, mandating a nutrition declaration (from Dec 2016), expanding “country of origin” labelling etc. The rules also govern the information which must be provided for distance selling.
