Visit by Minister of State Ms Máire Hoctor T.D. to Milford Care Centre 19th September 2007
Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children with special responsibility for services for older people, Ms Máire Hoctor T.D., today (19th September, 2007) visited Milford Care Centre in Limerick.
The Centre’s 30 Bed Hospice provides a comprehensive range of Specialist Palliative Care Services throughout Counties Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary, and its state of the art facility is recognised both locally and nationally as a centre of excellence in the field of specialist palliative care. Milford Care Centre also includes a 47 bed Nursing Home and a Home Care Nursing Service, which operates from local centres in Nenagh, Thurles, Ennis and Newcastlewest.
In partnership with the Health Service Executive, Milford Care Centre is set to embark on a major building programme in September 2007. The project will include a new 3 storey extension for the Palliative Medicine and Education Departments and the Community Specialist Team staff. The Minister welcomed the development which will ensure greater levels of equity and access to specialist palliative care service provision both on an inpatient and a community basis.
The Minister also offered her congratulations to the staff of the Centre which recently became the first facility to be awarded accreditation under the HIQA Accreditation Scheme (Palliative Care Standards) which covers the Specialist Palliative Care service, the Nursing Home and the Day Care Centre.
The Minister concluded by thanking the staff and management of Milford Care Centre for the excellent care provided to people of the midwest region including North Tipperary.
