Tánaiste welcomes development at Peamount Hospital to provide 50 beds for respiratory rehab and intermediate care use
The Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney TD, today (Wednesday, 6th July 2005) welcomed the development of new services at Peamount Hospital which will have an important impact on relieving A and E pressures in neighbouring acute hospitals, including Tallaght Hospital.
The Tánaiste said: “Within the context of the 10 point A and E plan the allocation of substantial resources and the major configuration of services in Peamount will allow the hospital to be used to its full capacity. Twenty five beds will be provided for respiratory rehabilitation and a further 25 beds will be available for elderly intermediate care. There will also be a substantial increase in the number of community based day patients treated in Peamount.”
“We are all aware that respiratory illnesses are a major contributing factor to the demands on A and E services throughout the winter. The dedicated respiratory rehabilitation facilities at Peamount will be fully operational by the early Autumn and we can expect them through their in-patient and out-patient services to contribute to a reduction in the pressure on A and E services.”
