Tánaiste announces appointment of Mr Joe Macri, Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland, to Board of Health Service Executive
The Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney T.D., today announced the appointment of Mr Joe Macri, Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland, to the Board of the Health Service Executive.
She said, “I am delighted that Joe has accepted this appointment. He is highly regarded nationally and internationally and has a track record of top class business leadership at Microsoft, one of the most important companies doing business globally from Ireland. He is already making an important contribution to public service by his Chairmanship of the Small Business Forum.
“I am confident Joe will bring his experience and skills to the HSE Board and enhance its critical role of providing professional, top quality governance for our single health service organisation.”
Biographical note on Mr Joe Macri, Managing Director, Microsoft Ireland
As Managing Director of Microsoft Ireland, Joe is responsible for Microsoft Corporation’s business in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Joe is a member of the Microsoft Ireland Governance Team and has cross site responsibility for the three Irish based operations; the European Operations Centre, the European Product Development Centre and the Sales, Marketing and Services Division, on all external matters including policy issues, broad based industry issues and strategic communications.
As part of Microsoft’s 20th anniversary celebrations in Ireland this year, Joe commissioned an economic report entitled: Productivity: Ireland’s Economic Imperative. The report, written by economist Paul Tansey, was published in May 2005 as a contribution to the ongoing debate and analysis about Ireland’s economic future.
Before moving to Ireland in 1999, Joe worked with Microsoft in the UK where he was responsible for the company’s Small Business Division. Prior to joining Microsoft in 1996 Joe worked with NatWest in the UK and before that with a number of technology companies in Australia.
In July of this year Joe was appointed Chairman of the Small Business Forum by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mr. Micheál Martin T.D..
He is a member of the Management Board of ICT Ireland and IBEC’s National Executive Council. An Australian national, he holds an MBA from Warwick Business School (UK) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Sydney University (Australia). He is married with two young children.
