Review of child care case announced
Ms Mary Hanafin, TD, Minister of State for Children, announced this evening (Monday, 9 October 2000) that she has asked the Eastern Regional Health Authority (ERHA) to initiate a case management review of the care provided to the late Kim O’Donovan.
The Minister said that she felt that lessons could be learned from the handling of this case which would lead to improved services for other troubled children in the future.
The Minister said that the review should examine in particular whether services provided were adequate and appropriate. It was important that recommendations based on the findings of the review should be made.
Following discussions with the CEO of the ERHA it had been agreed that the review should be carried out by an independent person who should report to the Minister by the end of the year.
