Publication of the Report of the Advisory Group on the Prevention of Transmission of Blood-borne Diseases in the Health-Care Setting
The Tánaiste and Minister for Health & Children, Ms Mary Harney, TD, today welcomed the publication of the third report of the Advisory Group on the Prevention of Transmission of Blood-Borne Diseases in the Health-Care Setting.
The report substantially revises previous guidance which is intended to protect both health-care workers and patients from infection with blood-borne diseases, including specific guidance on preventing Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV infections in health-care settings. It incorporates recent scientific developments and current best practice in the area of prevention of these infections.
The report provides detailed risk management and infection control policies, highlights the importance of prevention and recommends a range of measures which should reduce these infections and enhance patient safety and overall quality of care in the health-care system.
The Department of Health and Children and the HSE are working together to implement the recommendations of the report.
