Press Release for Máire Hoctor T.D., Minister for Older People at the launch of “Pavee Beoirs and Glokes” Groundwork to support a Network for Older Travellers in Finglas and Blanchardstown
Máire Hoctor T.D., Minister for Older People today (3rd December, 2008) launched a report outlining the needs of older travellers in Finglas and Blanchardstown. The report explores the experiences of travellers and service providers in relation to access and provision of local services for older travellers.
Speaking at the launch in Pavee Point, Minister Hoctor said,“The report launched today details some key findings relating to the experiences of older Travellers, both with local service providers, the local community and among their own community. Older Travellers are small in number and this in itself should be a cause for concern.”
The Minister continued,“These findings provide strong evidence of the value of a social network for older Travellers. This network could be used as a forum to provide information on services and entitlements for members. It could also be used to address those issues surrounding financial exclusion and access to services. Perhaps most importantly, a network would serve as a means to combat the sense of social isolation among older Travellers in the community.”
The Minister concluded by congratulating Pavee Point for the publication of this important report and wished them every success in their work to improve the lives of older travellers in the community.
