Opening of Quality Assurance in Nursing Association Conference by Mr. Ivor Callely TD, Minister for State at the Department of Health and Children
Mr. Ivor Callely TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children today (Thursday, 31st October) opened the Annual Quality Assurance in Nursing Association (QANA) Conference in the Industry Centre, UCD, Belfield.
The theme of this year´s Conference is “Achieving Quality Outcomes Through Practice Development”.
“It is no longer tenable to defend nursing practice by saying ´this is how it has always been done´ to justify how patients are treated” the Minister told delegates at the Conference.
Minister Callely went on to say that “it is only through good evidence based practice development that we can achieve quality outcomes for patients”.
Minister Callely pointed out to conference delegates that the concept of Quality was one of the four fundamental concepts underpinning the new Health Strategy.
This strategy he said “identifies overall national goals to guide activity and planning in the Health System for the next seven to ten years”.
The Minister told the delegates that the health-care delivery system of the future will rely on teams of nurses, doctors, midwifes, social workers, pharmacists and other health care service professionals to work together in partnership.
Minister Callely encouraged delegates to “develop networks, which will assist you in meeting the challenges involved in the quality delivery of nursing and midwifery care today and into the future.”
The Minister concluded his remarks by congratulating the Association “for embracing the concept of quality assurance so positively and assertively.”
