O´Malley opens Springboard Family Support project
Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Mr Tim O´Malley T.D., today, Monday 7th July 2003, opened a Springboard Family Support Project in Southill, Limerick. The project, which is designed to help vulnerable families, will be run in association with Barnardos.The national Springboard project was established in 1998 and is aimed at improving the well-being of children and parents through the promotion of family support services.
The Minister said that this Government is committed to supporting families. The Minister said that “since 1997 the Government has provided an additional approximately €178M revenue funding and that there are now 21 Springboard p rojects which aim to cater for children who are at risk and their families”.
The Minister recognised that so many families experience huge adversity in their lives. “It is important that positive measures to promote attachment are used in the interventions available to families”, the Minister added, and that “thanks to the efforts of Barnardos, the Mid-Western Health Board and Limerick City Council, FÁS, the people of Southill and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish would reap the rewards of this Springboard Project”.
