MRI Scanner for Waterford Regional Hospital
Mr Micheál Martin, Minister for Health and Children, today (19 July, 2001) announced that he has given approval to the South Eastern Health Board to proceed with the provision of MRI facilities for Waterford Regional Hospital.
The Waterford County and City Infirmary Trust are providing a contribution of £753,000 towards the cost of the basic equipment. The ongoing revenue costs will be met by the South Eastern Health Board.
MRI scanning is used in the diagnosis of many neurological conditions and it can obviate the need for invasive procedures in a number of clinical areas. “I am very pleased to announce the provision of MRI facilities for Waterford which will add significantly to the acute services available at the hospital and provide improved health care for patients in the whole South Eastern Health Board region.”
