Minister White attends Tallaght Hope and Remembrance Service 2012
Alex White, T.D. Minister of State with responsibility for Primary Care at the Department of Health, today attended the Tallaght Hope and Remembrance Service at Fettercairn Community & Youth Centre, Tallaght.
The event is organised by Tallaght Local Drugs Task Force and Minister White thanked them for organising the event and for their ongoing work in the Tallaght area, particularly in the field of family support.
The Minister also acknowledged the work of one of the Task Forces projects, SWAN Family Support, who hosted the event, and thanked them for their services. SWAN provide a mix of practical advice, counselling, peer support and holistic therapies for those affected by drug misuse.
At the event the Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the continued implementation of the National Drugs Strategy, and said “It is appropriate at tonight’s event to also look to the future and to reflect on ways of avoiding the sad loss which many of those present here this evening have experienced”.
Finally the Minister paid tribute to those who have lost a loved one to drug misuse, saying “An event like this is important for many reasons, but most of all for family members to remember their loved ones who have passed away and to recognise their own particular loss in an atmosphere free of any feeling of stigma or judgement”.
