Minister Varadkar meeting Minister Bi Jingquan
Today Minister for Health Leo Varadkar is meeting Minister Bi Jingquan, the Minister with responsibility for the China Food and Drug Administration.
Speaking before the meeting, Minister Varadkar said: “I’m delighted to welcome Minister Bi and the China Food and Drug Administration experts to Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity to deepen relationships between the two countries. There is a globalised market for pharmaceuticals and food products, and it is important that regulatory authorities in Ireland and China work together in the interest of public health. These discussions focus on future cooperation between Ireland and China, and to improve contact and interactions with Irish food, pharmaceutical and medical devices sectors.”
This morning Minister Bi and the CFDA delegation visited the Pfizer manufacturing plant in Clondalkin. Enterprise Ireland then hosted the Chinese delegation at the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training in UCD.
This afternoon the delegation are visiting Leinster House. After a guided tour Minister Bi, Ambassador Xu and CFDA delegation will meet Minister Varadkar and senior officials from the Department of Health, the Health Products Regulatory Authority and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. The meeting is to discuss regulatory systems in the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
Minister Varadkar said the bilateral meeting will benefit Irish exporters of food, pharmaceutical and medical devices to China by building knowledge of, and contact with the China Food and Drug Administration.
