The Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Mr. Ivor Callely, T.D. has today ( 17 September 2003) outlined details of an €8 million refurbishment plan for the Meath Community Unit, which is on the site of the former Meath Hospital.
“I was delighted to get involved with the residents and health board officials in June of this year to discuss the future of the Unit. I gave a commitment then that I would get involved and drive this project with a view to securing funds. I am delighted therefore that I have secured the necessary funding and look forward to visiting the Unit on Friday next to officially launch details of the package.”
The Minister will visit the Meath Community Unit (1-9 Heytesbury Street, Dublin 8) on Friday next, 19th September 2003 at 15:00 hrs in order to officially launch the refurbishment plan and to meet with committee members and residents of the Unit. The cost of the refurbishment plan is in the region of €8 million, which will include design, construction and equipping of the Unit.
“I have a long association with the retention of Meath Community Unit as a health facility dating back to my membership of the Eastern Health Board. This unit is an important facility for the City of Dublin and it gives me great pleasure again, to ensure its security for the people of the community for many years to come.”
“The investment in Meath Community Unit marks another example of this Governments commitment to the continued development of services for older people.” concluded Minister Callely.
