Minister Séan Power opens the Caring for Carers Ireland Annual Respite Weekend and Conference in Castlebar
Mr Seán Power T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children today, (Friday, 2nd March) formally opened the Caring for Carers Ireland 16th Annual Respite Weekend & Conference in Castlebar. Caring for Carers is a national organisation providing support to home-based carers through a network of Carers Groups throughout Ireland. The theme of this year’s conference is about equal opportunities for all and the rights of family carers, which Caring for Carers Ireland plays a pivotal role in addressing.
Speaking at the conference the Minister said, “I am delighted to open this conference which promotes social inclusion, combats isolation and provides much needed respite and therapies for family carers. The conference will provide family carers with the opportunity to network, listen to their fellow carers, discuss shared experiences, but, most importantly, they can contribute their views.”
“Caring for Carers Ireland plays an important role in supporting family carers. The organisation aims to promote the health, wellbeing and quality of life for family carers and those for whom they care. The respite weekend allows carers to relax and be cared for, and is aimed at giving them renewed hope and energy for the coming year.”
