Minister O’Malley launches new Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology at University of Limerick
Minister for State at the Department of Health and Children Tim O’Malley T.D., today, 17 December 04, launched the new Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology at University of Limerick.
This programme will help address the shortage of such skilled personnel in the Irish health system by providing additional training places in clinical psychology from September, 2005 onwards.
The introduction of this new doctoral programme represents a very exciting development for the University as it is the first professional doctorate to be offered by the University.
This programme has been modified to take into account current developments in the education of psychologists and that therefore it is quite different to other courses while maintaining the same high standards.
The Minister stated that “the aims set out for this programme include such ideals as educating students to the highest international standards, empowering students to achieve their full potential and to act as a focal point for the development of professional psychology in the region”.
