Minister McEntee launches “Positive Ageing 2016” – the first National Indicators Report

Minister for Mental Health and Older People, Helen McEntee TD, today attended the National Convention of Older People’s Councils in Cavan and launched the“Positive Ageing 2016”, the first National Positive Ageing Indicators report. The ageing of our population presents both a challenge and an opportunity for all of Government and the report highlights many of the positive and the negative aspects of growing older in Ireland today.

Speaking at the launch of the report, Minister McEntee said, “this report contains lots of positive messages but also highlights areas that we need to improve on. We know that older people want to age in their own homes and communities and that creating positive change in health and wellbeing of people across our cities, towns and villages takes the involvement of the whole community, the whole of Government and all of society working in unison.

This report outlines the broad range of areas in which people need to be supported in order to enjoy a positive ageing experience. We in the Government are committed, through the implementation process of the National Positive Ageing Strategy, to work with our colleagues in other Government Departments and with stakeholders at national and local level to seek to address the challenges presented in this report”.
