Minister Martin Provides €1.6m capital boost to the Royal Victoria, Eye and Ear Hospital
Micheál Martin, TD, Minister for Health and Children, announced today (Monday 11th August 2003) that his Department is providing, through the ERHA , €1.6m to the Royal Victoria, Eye and Ear Hospital for works to their Theatre and Out-Patient Department facilities. This initiative is being resourced by the National Development Plan.
This funding will allow the Hospital to commence immediate improvements to the Operating Theatre and Recovery area and the Out-Patient Department.
The plan allows for the completion of building works, the provision or replacement of new equipment, for mechanical, electrical, and safety works to be completed and for general decoration and refurbishment works to be carried out.
Work scheduled to begin by mid-August and the hospital is now putting in place a number of measures to ensure that minimum disruption of services occurs while these works are being carried out.
The Minister acknowledged the need for this work of the facility and said that “this latest investment demonstrates this Government´s commitment to the enhancement of acute hospital services in the eastern region”.
The cost of the Project is estimated to be in the region of€1.620m.
