Minister Martin announces NDP funding for Carlow District Hospital
Minister Micheál Martin, Minister for Health and Children, is delighted today (29 August, 2003) to announce the provision of €1.5 million in capital funding under the National Development Fund for the development of a new 10 bed Nursing Unit at Carlow District Hospital.
The Minister acknowledged the need to provide additional accommodation for older people at Carlow District Hospital to serve the catchment area. He highlighted the importance of developing long-stay facilities for older people within their own communities to ensure that they could be cared for as close as possible to their families and friends.
“The development of health care facilities for older people, both residential and community based, was a priority for the Government”, added the Minister
The Minister concluded by saying that the NDP funding allocated for the development of a new Nursing Unit for older people at Carlow District Hospital was yet another example of the current Government´s commitment to developing services for older people.
