Minister Martin announces funding for national prevalence study on Attention Deficit Disorder
The Minister for Health and Children, Mr. Michaél Martin T.D. today, (Sunday 6th February, 2000), announced that he is making a grant of £30,000 available to enable a national study to be undertaken on the prevalence of Attention Deficit Disorder in the country.
“The Report of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Health and Children on Attention Deficit Disorder in Ireland recommended, that such a study should be carried out and I am happy to take this recommendation on board”, the Minister said.
The Minister went on to say that he recognised that children and adults with this condition have particular service needs and that he intends to make provision for these requirements as part of the overall development of child and adolescent psychiatric and adult mental health services over the next few years.
The detailed arrangements for carrying out the study are currently being worked out by the Department.
