Minister Máire Hoctor Opens Anam Cara Housing with Care Scheme, Glasnevin, Dublin
Máire Hoctor, Minister for Older People today (Friday, 27th March, 2009) opened the Anam Cara Housing with Care Scheme, at Glasnevin, Dublin. Anam Cara is a threeway partnership initiative between Fold Ireland, the Health Service Executive and Dublin City Council. The development at Anam Cara opened in June 2007, and provides 28 apartments for older people diagnosed with dementia and a further 28 for frail older people. The scheme also provides two Day Centres; one for those diagnosed with dementia, the other for frail older people.
Anam Cara is the second Housing-with-Care scheme to be developed by Fold Ireland within HSE Dublin North East and the first scheme within Dublin City Council. The development incorporates SMART Technology to assist the care planning process, ensuring that a person centred approach is taken to the delivery of the care and support services. Such technology also assists residents in maintaining control over their lives.
Speaking after she opened Anam Cara Housing with Care Scheme, Minister Hoctor said “I am most impressed by the high standard of accommodation and by the degree of professionalism shown by staff in caring for, and in supporting residents. The provision of modern, high-quality facilities such as those at Anam Cara greatly improves the lives of clients and points the way to developing trends both nationally and internationally in the field of best practice for older persons.”
