Minister Lynch welcomes publication of HIQA report into St. Mary’s, Drumcar
Minister of State for Primary, Social Care (Disabilities and Older People) and Mental Health, Kathleen Lynch has welcomed the publication of the HIQA inspection report published today (Friday 12th June 2015) into Saint Mary’s residential disability services, St John of God North East Community Services, Drumcar, County Louth.
Speaking on the report, Minister Lynch said “We have correctly set robust standards to ensure that our most vulnerable are cared for safely, respectfully and compassionately. There are undoubtedly failings in the services being provided. All providers of care, whether HSE or voluntary providers, must be vigilant, and must be ambitious in achieving compliance with the standards, as set out.”
“I welcome confirmation that a mechanism has been put in place to deal with the immediate challenges facing St. Mary’s. There is no dispute between the St John of God Service and HIQA about the findings. Corrective action plans were submitted to HIQA last month. The only way we will achieve improvements in our services is to work collaboratively, while always keeping the residents as the focus.”
