Brian Lenihan T.D., Minister for Children, today (28th November 03) visited the Children´s Discovery Museum, Museum Feasa na nÓg, at Ballybrit, Galway.
The Children´s Discovery Museum is the first of its kind in Ireland and is an interactive, fun, and educational facility aimed at children aged 0-12 years old. It offers children the opportunity to discover Arts, Science, Technologies and Humanities in a creative and challenging setting.
The venue caters for children of all different ages. For the 0-2 age group, there are four different soft, sensory areas, using ranges of textiles, light, music, smell and touch. These areas are based on each of the four seasons.
Special needs children are also catered for and are especially welcomed.
For older children, there are interactive exhibits including a theatre, a craft section, a miniature science lab, TV studio, replica cottage, a construction zone, and life sized exhibits of the human body.
Minister Lenihan stated, “I am very pleased to be able to attend Ireland´s first interactive Children´s Discovery Museum. The facility is a unique educational opportunity for children of various ages, allowing them to learn in an interesting and entertaining environment. The facility will also contribute greatly to local tourism and is a major addition to the artistic and cultural offerings in Galway and the West”.
The centre is staffed by dedicated and highly skilled animators who will enhance the museum experience for all visitors.
