Minister Hoctor welcomes International Day of Older Persons
The Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children with responsibility for Older People, Ms Máire Hoctor, today (1 October, 2007), welcomed International Day of Older Persons and Positive Ageing Week which takes place until Saturday 6 October.
“The older population in this country has made an invaluable contribution to all aspects of Irish life. There is no doubt that society benefits enormously from the presence and participation of those who have seen what life has to offer ” said Minister Hoctor, marking the start of Positive Ageing Week.
Celebrating Positive Ageing week will see older people’s organisations throughout Ireland holding events and activities in their communities to mark, celebrate and promote their own positive attitude to ageing and will highlight issues of importance to our older population.
“As Minister for Older People I am glad to say that this Government is fully committed to improving all aspects of the lives of older people by focusing not only on health issues but also giving consideration to the quality of accommodation, security, welfare, and all other issues which affect older people” added the Minister.
