Minister Hoctor opens the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Irish Gerontological Society Friday 21st September 2007 in Croke Park
Máire Hoctor TD, Minister for Older People, today, Friday, 21st September, 2007, formally opened the 55th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Irish Gerontological Society.
The Society is a national, interdisciplinary scientific body, whose aim is the study of age-related subjects and the promotion of a better understanding by the general public of age-related issues. Founded in 1950 the society is one of the oldest of its kind in the world.
Speaking at the conference, Minister Hoctor said “Health information is a valuable resource. Keeping abreast of new information and applying it on a daily basis will remain an ongoing challenge. The Minister added “by providing a forum for evidence-based discussion on ageing your conference provides an important forum to discuss and debate issues of fundamental concern to older people.”
The Minister also spoke about the Government’s commitment and policy towards services for older people. “We are fully committed to improving all aspects of the lives of older people by focusing not only on health issues but also giving consideration to all other issues which affect older people” the Minister said.
