Minister Hanafin announces £5m grant for St Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown
Ms Mary Hanafin TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, is pleased to announce the provision of a grant of £5.0m for a major upgrading programme at St Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown. The development will involve a major extension to the existing Accident and Emergency Department and the provision of an extended day hospital unit.
St Columcille’s is a 150 bedded acute general hospital serving the catchment area of South East Dublin and East Wicklow. The hospital will be spending in the region of £13.5 million in the current year on the provision of a wide range of in-patient, out-patient and day care services. Last year the hospital treated a total of 4600 in-patients, 1900 day cases and 17,500 out patients. The casualty department saw a total of 27,500 patients in 1999. Services developed at the hospital over the last two years include gynaecology, cardiology, endocrinology and a new CT scanning service.
In announcing this important initiative Minister Hanafin said that the investment package of £5.0 million will ensure that hospital services for people from South East Dublin and East Wicklow are significantly enhanced.
