Minister for Health announces appointments to the Voluntary Health Insurance Board
Minister for Health Leo Varadkar has announced the appointment of three new members of the Voluntary Health Insurance Board.
The new members are Joyce Brennan, Paul O’Faherty and Declan Moran.
“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Brennan, Mr O’Faherty and Mr Moran to the Voluntary Health Insurance Board. I am confident that the consolidation of actuarial skills through these appointments will strengthen the role of the Board in meeting its strategic objectives in the coming years. Their expertise and experience will prove significant assets to the work of the Board in facing the particular challenges ahead. I wish them well during their term of office,” Minister Varadkar said.
Joyce Brennan, (FIA, FSAI, MBA, QFA) is an actuary with more than 20 years’ experience. She is a Principal with Mercer Ireland and a former Director of KPMG who specialises in developing and implementing programs of change to defined benefit pension plans and advising on governance and procedures.
Paul O’Faherty, (FSAI) has extensive experience in business and consultancy. He is the immediate past President of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, a former CEO of Mercer Ireland and a former Chairman of Marsh McLennan Companies (MMC), Ireland. His main areas of expertise are in business strategy, corporate governance, pensions and health policy, risk management, insurance and institutional investment.
Declan Moran, (FIA) is the Director, Marketing and Business Development with Vhi Healthcare. He has a BSC in Computer Science and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries since 1994. He joined Vhi Healthcare in 1997 from the life and pensions industry and was previously appointed to the Vhi Healthcare Board of Directors for the period 2008 to 2013. From November 2011 to July 2012, he served as Acting Chief Executive, Vhi Healthcare.
The appointments are for a period of five years, commencing 26 November 2014.
