Minister Devins wishes Team Ireland good luck in the Special Olympics
Minister Jimmy Devins TD Minister for Disability and Mental Health, today, 3rd October, 2007, wished Team Ireland the best of luck in the Special Olympics Games in Shanghai.
Minister Devins stated ‘‘I offer warmest congratulations to each of the athletes who have been chosen to represent our country. We know that you will compete with ability, resolve, and sportsmanship”.
“Irish people love to celebrate the success of their athletes and we really look forward to seeing our athletes giving their best, win, lose or draw.’’
This year the Irish contingent consists of 142 athletes who will compete in 12 different sports in Shanghai. Travelling with them are 55 coaches and 200 of the 18,000 volunteers of Special Olympics Ireland. Around 10,000 athletes from 170 countries will take part in the 2007 Shanghai Games.
“I wish all the competitors the best of luck. They are flying the flag for Ireland. I know that they have worked very hard in the run up to the games and I hope all their efforts pay off and they achieve the success they deserve.’’ concluded Minister Devins.
