Minister Callely re-launches food hygiene book
Consumers are entitled to safe food and food workers must fully understand what food safety involves, according to the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children Mr.Ivor Callely TD when he launched the second edition of “Food Hygiene for Food Handlers” book.
Speaking at the recent annual conference of the Environmental Health Officers´ Association, the Minister welcomed the book as a highly valuable resource for all food workers, particularly those entering the food business for the first time.
The 104-page book is aimed at the country´s 260,000 food workers to give basic information on practising good food hygiene and counter the number of food-poisoning cases in Ireland.
Written by Principal EHO Cathal Kearney and sponsored by hygienic floor and wall specialist Altro, the book relates specifically to Irish legislation and standards and will form part of all third level catering courses. It will also be relevant in the home and in secondary schools.
