Minister Callely presents IS0 9001: 2000 accreditation award to the Director of Public Health Nursing, Waterford Community Care
Mr Ivor Callely, T.D. Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, with special responsibility for Services for Older People, today, (30 June 2004) offered his congratulations to everyone in the Public Health Nursing Department in Waterford involved in achieving the IS0 9001: 2000 accreditation award. The award was presented to Ms Geraldine Tabb, on behalf of the Public Health Nursing Department.
The Minister praised the work of the Public Health Nursing Department and stated that he regards “it as a privilege to be associated with an event that recognises in a tangible way the enormous contribution of these people to older people from the area, and he welcomed the opportunity to meet with them and to express his encouragement and support.”
The Minister spoke of his awareness of the effort involved in achieving the ISO 9001: 2000 accreditation and also of the benefits to both clients and staff, adding that this demonstrated “a model of good practice for delivering appropriate care in the appropriate setting, ensuring the client is at the centre of planning care delivery, promoting team building, improving staff morale and taking ownership of how the actual service is delivered.”
The Minister also spoke of the positive contribution of older people to Irish life and the fact that older people are living longer and healthier lives, and those lives should have purpose and meaning.
Minister Callely concluded by congratulating the staff of the Public Health Nursing Department on their achievement and their dedication to providing a quality service for older people in the Waterford Community Care area.
