Minister Callely opens the newly refurbished Trinity Therapy Schools at St James’s Hospital
Mr. Ivor Callely, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children officially opened the newly refurbished Trinity Centre for Health Science which houses the Schools of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Radiation Therapy.
The major refurbishment of old buildings at St James’s Hospital was carried out by TCD and provides state of the art facilities for the schools. The development is part of a larger project to provide purpose built accommodation for the three schools along with facilities which are part of the Medical, Pharmacology and Nursing Schools. Commenting Minister Callely said that “the concentration of a number of schools on this site will allow for an interdisciplinary approach to health science education with increased multi-disciplinary teaching across undergraduate and post graduate programmes”.
“Substantial increases in investment in the health services in the past few years have led to expansions in all areas of service provision which has had an impact on the demand for all health professionals, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists and radiation therapists”, Minister Calley added.
TCD were commended by Minister Callely on their efforts to expand therapy courses in response to this additional investment, “This increased intake of students will help to address the human resource requirements of the health services and provide the personnel required for current and future health care demands”.
Minister Callely congratulated all those involved in bringing the project to fruition and acknowledged the hard work and effort which had gone into the provision of such excellent facilities enabling TCD to continue to produce first class graduates who are in constant demand both at home and abroad.
