Minister Callely opens conference on Health Service Performance Management System
Mr Ivor Callely, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, today, (26 February 2004) formally opened the conference on the Health Service Performance Management System being held in the Tullamore Court Hotel.
The primary purpose of the conference is to provide a forum where health service managers involved in the performance management system pilot sites throughout the health service can provide feedback on progress to date and consider issues arising. The introduction of a performance management system for the health service was a key component of the Action Plan for People Management, launched in November 2002. In opening the conference, the Minister stated that the introduction of performance management to the health service was about two way communication, agreeing goals, harnessing the potential of teams and working towards a better realisation of organisation goals.
The Minister also highlighted other key elements of the process, such as the development of individuals within the team, through the better identification and provision of the skills necessary to carry out your job to the best of your ability, the sharing of experience, the process of involvement and feedback and the recognition of achievement.
