Minister Callely Launches An Bord Altranais E-Learning Initiative
Mr Ivor Callely, TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children launched a new eLearning initiative by An Bord Altranais, the nursing registration and regulatory body.
The new eLearning tool will facilitate the assessment of competencies of student nurses in the following areas:-
- Critical analysis
- Reflective skills
- Abilities essential to the art and science of nursing
This is an on-line, interactive facility and has a discussion forum for issues relating to the introduction of competence assessment.
Congratulated An Bord Altranais for bringing forward this initiative, the Minister said, “An Bord Altranais have developed five areas of competence to represent the level a student must reach on completion of their education programme in order to enter on the Register held by An Bord Altranais”.
“These areas of competence represent a broad enabling framework to facilitate the assessment of pre-registration nursing students´ clinical practice and use of theoretical knowledge”, he added.
The Competence Assessment Programme being launched today is designed to support a standard of assessment through interactive learning. The programme allows participants an opportunity to learn about the areas of competence and about the Competence Assessment initiative.
“What is so innovative about this eLearning programme is that it is designed to meet the needs of all levels – students, qualified clinical nursing staff and educators. It also offers a flexible and accessible approach to learning as it can be utilised in many ways – at home, in the workplace, as part of an education programme, in a group or on an individual basis.” concluded the Minister.
