Minister Brian Lenihan T.D. officially opens Aras Uí Dhomhnaill Nursing Unit, Milford, Co. Donegal
Brian Lenihan, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, today (9th December 2005) offered his congratulations to everyone involved in the development of the Áras Uí Dhomhnaill Nursing Unit in Milford, Co. Donegal.
The Nursing Home has a state of the art purpose built facility consisting of 48 beds, of which there is incorporated a 12 bed dedicated dementia section. Áras Ui Dhomhnaill Nursing Unit is designed to provide high standard affordable health care in a homely environment, where future residents can retain ties with their community at all times. It is dedicated to providing professional care within a friendly and caring environment.
The first choice for older people is to remain living at home for as long as possible with the support of their families and community support services, where necessary.
The Minister said “…it is important that older people have access to the best possible care available, whether it is in a general hospital, community nursing unit or private nursing home such as this new development.”
Minister Lenihan added that the Government is committed to putting in place a more robust regulatory system as quickly as possible to protect vulnerable older people and to provide for the highest possible standards of care for older people in long stay facilities.
