Minister Brady opens new facilities at Beaumont Hospital
Aíne Brady, TD, Minister for Older People and Health Promotion, today (Thursday 30th April 2009) officially opened the new Hepatology Unit at Beaumont Hospital.
Minister Brady also opened a new 3 storey ward block at the hospital. The 28-bed block includes facilities that can be accessed by cystic fibrosis and medical oncology patients.
Beaumont Hospital is one of eight national specialist centres designated specifically for the care of patients who were infected with Hepatitis C through the administration of contaminated blood and blood products within the State.
Approximately 170 patients attend Beaumont Hospital for Hepatology services.
The new unit, which became operational last year, is comprised of a waiting area, outpatient area, consultation rooms and meeting room facilities
Speaking at the opening, Minister Brady said “I welcome the provision of enhanced hepatology facilities for patients as part of their overall care relating to their Hepatitis C condition.”
Minister Brady also said that she would like to “ thank the Hepatitis C Patient Representative Groups who have been very closely involved in this project, especially in terms of the unit’s layout and design”.
