Minister Brady launches Carelocal’s Strategic Plan 2009–2011
Áine Brady, T.D., Minister for Older People and Health Promotion, today (19 October 2009) officially launched Carelocal’s Strategic Plan 2009–2011. For over thirty years, Carelocal’s volunteers have been engaged in one-to-one visits in older persons’ homes, and in the provision of day trips and social outings, to frail and housebound older people in the Dublin City Council area.
During the course of her speech, Minister Brady praised Carelocal and the dedication of its volunteers, who were “not only helping to improve the quality of life – but [are] also helping to reduce the social isolation – of those living alone”.
Minister Brady referred to some of the significant steps taken in recent years to improve the position of older persons, including “the introduction of the registration and inspection regime of residential care for older people in July of this year; the introduction of the Nursing Homes Support Scheme (A Fair Deal) later this month; and significant development of a range of community based care services over the last three years or so”.
Minister Brady also said that in excess of 180 responses had been received, following her June 2009 invitation for submissions on the National Positive Ageing Strategy. She said that she was delighted with the quality of the submissions, include the one received from Carelocal.
