Minister Brady at the Opening of the Caring for Carers Annual Respite Weekend Conference
Áine Brady, T.D., Minister for Older People, today (26th February 2010) opened the Caring for Carers Annual Respite Weekend and Conference. Over 500 family carers from all parts of the country are expected to attend the weekend. The theme of this year’s event is Sustaining Long Term Care – A Fair Deal for Family Carers.
Caring for Carers is a national non-government organisation which aims to promote the health, wellbeing and quality of life of family carers and those for whom they care.
Speaking at the opening Minister Brady said “The Government is committed to supporting carers and to ensuring they receive a comprehensive range of services to enable them to continue to care. This is reflected in the continued development of community-based services for older persons- just over €200 million additional funding has been provided for new service developments in recent years, including an extra €10 million in Budget 2010 to expand the Home Care Package Initiative nationally.”
