Minister Brady addresses the Caring for Carers Ireland Annual General Meeting
Áine Brady, T.D., Minister for Older People, today (17th June 2010) spoke at the Caring for Carers Ireland AGM.
Caring for Carers is a national non-government organisation which aims to promote the health, well being and quality of life of family carers and those for whom they care.
Speaking at the opening Minister Brady said the Government is committed to supporting carers and to ensuring they receive whatever supports possible to enable them to continue to care. The overarching policy of the Government is to keep people at home for as long as possible, thus allowing them to remain independent in their within their own communities. She stated “As Minister responsible for the Positive Ageing Strategy I welcomed the recent submission by Caring for Carers Ireland to the development of the Strategy. It is important that all those involved with policies or services for older people liaise regularly to exchange ideas and keep updated as how best to enhance the lives of older people. This is particularly the case given the changed circumstances facing the country. The focus of the new Strategy will be to identify how improvements realistically can be made in the short term, while mapping out longer term requirements as resources allow”.
