Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children opens new €30m Operating Theatre Department at Our Lady´s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, and announces additional funding of €2.9m for the Hospital
Mr Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children, today announced that he is providing additional capital funding of€1.9m to enable Our Lady´s Hospital to continue to improve conditions at the hospital. The hospital intends to use this funding to improve security at the hospital, as well as upgrading the electrical facilities on some of the wards and carrying refurbishment works
The Minister also announced that he is providing additional revenue funding of approximately €1m to support a proposal by the hospital to utilise some of the additional theatre capacity to carry out additional cardiac surgery on-site. The implementation of this initiative will allow a minimum of two additional cardiac surgery cases per week to be performed at Crumlin
The Minister was at the hospital today to formally open the new, state-of-the-art Operating Theatre Department, which cost almost€30m.
The next developments at the hospital will be the new MRI facilities, and new interim facilities for the Haematology/Oncology Departments. Both of these projects are being progressed as a priority as interim projects pending the redevelopment of the whole hospital. Interim Cardiac Department developments at the hospital are also being progressed as a priority.
