Martin welcomes IMO Ballot Results
The Minister for Health and Children, Mr Micheál Martin TD, has today (28th July, 2000) welcomed the result of the IMO ballot to accept the package of proposals recently negotiated with the assistance of the Labour Relations Commission.
The Minister stated, “The package will provide for a significant improvement in the working conditions of NCHDs and will address some long standing grievances of NCHDs particularly with regard to their rates of overtime pay.
The Minister, referring to the Education and Training element of the package stated that “This investment will herald a new era in both the extent and quality of education and training programmes for NCHDs and will facilitate the Irish health service in retaining many young doctors who might otherwise travel abroad for further study.”
The Minister also stated that “The introduction of a Medical Manpower Manager at hospital level will ensure that agreements reached nationally will be implemented in full at hospital level.”
