Martin welcomes deferral of psychiatric nurses strike
Mr Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children today (6th June 2000) welcomed the decision of the Psychiatric Nurses Association to defer industrial action.
Welcoming the decision, the Minister said, “It important that the integrity of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness be maintained and in that context a meeting with Department of Finance officials is scheduled for this week to explain the terms of the agreement and bench-marking in particular with the Psychiatric nurses Association.”
The Minister also stated that he was committed to implementing in full the recommendations of the Commission on Nursing. “I am satisfied that the Nursing Commission is a suitable vehicle to progress many of the outstanding issues of concern to the Psychiatric Nurses Association.”
A meeting between the Health Services Employers Agency and the Nursing Alliance will take place on Thursday to progress matters.
