Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children, today (Monday 11 March) expressed his pleasure in officially announcing a €1.27m capital grant for the Barretstown Gang Camp in Ballymore Eustace, Kildare.
From April to late Autumn each year, Barretstwon Gang Camp caters for approximately 1,400 people, providing therapeutic activity and support services to children with serious illnesses, their siblings and their parents.
Minister Martin said today “This additional capital funding provided by the Government provides a substantial contribution towards the planned development of the facilities at the Barretstown Gang Camp.”
This grant represents funding under the National Development Plan (2000-2006) and will be paid to Barretstown Gang Camp through the ERHA. Barretstown is a member of the ever-growing Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Association and is the flagship European Camp having opened its doors in 1994 with a gift of €1.9m from its founder Paul Newman and a donation of a 500 acre site from the Government.
From these origins Government support has continued, including the grant officially announced today by Minister Martin; allowing Barretstown to expand its programme and facilities offering therapeutic recreation and support programmes to children with serious illnesses, their siblings and parents.
