Máire Hoctor TD, Minister for Older People opens the 6th Annual Wexford Area Community Conference and the launch of the Social Inclusion Plan for the Wexford Area 2008 – 2013
Máire Hoctor, Minister for Older People today (Saturday, 8th November) opened the 6th Annual Wexford Area Community Conference organised by the Wexford Area Partnership, in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford.
The conference’s theme was“Building Communities – making investment work”.Speaking at the conference Minister Hoctor said“I have read with great interest the profile of the Wexford Area Partnership and am thoroughly impressed with the broad range of issues and activities that the partnership involves itself in. Some of these issues are of particular interest to me in my role as Minister for Older People.”
Minister Hoctor also praised the valuable role of volunteers in community development,“Volunteers have always been an integral part of Irish society and I know that the Wexford Area Partnership work extremely hard to promote active citizenship and to develop and support volunteer leaders. Volunteers are ordinary people, people who care about their community, their environment, their fellow citizens, and future generations”.
Later that morning, Minister Hoctor also launched the Social Inclusion Plan for the Wexford Area 2008-2013. The Minister said“I welcome the publication of this detailed and thorough plan which has been compiled following intensive consultation with all stakeholders with an interest in working for the good of the communities of Wexford. Indeed may I compliment the manner in which this consultation has been effected to bring this impressive document to fruition. This plan clearly reflects on the learning from the previous plan period and carefully and succinctly utilises this learning to inform the structure and content of the new plan.”
