“Look out for Older People this Christmas” asks Minister for Services for Older People, Sean Power TD

Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, Sean Power TD, has asked that we remember our older neighbours this Christmas. “I would ask that each of us look out for older people in our community this Christmas and New Year. This is the time of year when older people are most vulnerable. All it takes is a few minuets to call in to neighbours and make sure they are well and have enough food and fuel.”

“I hope people will think to check on elderly neighbours and friends especially during cold weather. While most older people are very independent, they may find it more difficult to get out and about during the winter.”

“It might be a good idea to call in and ask if there are any groceries they need, or mail or bills to post. It may not seem like much to you, but in bad weather just taking a few minutes out of your day could mean a lot to your older neighbour.”
