Lenihan launches Fingal Area Childcare Plan
Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D., Minister of State with responsibility for Children today launched the Fingal Area Childcare Plan at the Carnegie Court Hotel, Swords, Co. Dublin at 3.00pm.
The plan sets out the strategy for childcare development in the Fingal Area over the life of the National Development Plan and was formulated by the Fingal Childcare Committee in association with the Centre for Social and Educational Research at DIT.
The purpose of the Fingal Childcare Committee is to assist in the co-ordination of Childcare, both nationally and locally and to assist in prioritising funding.
There are 9 strategic objectives outlined in the plan and these include the maintenance and building of the local childcare capacity, the development and promotion of quality standards and targets in childcare for the Fingal area, the increasing of opportunities for learning and information exchange amongst the childcare sector, the identification of training needs for childcare providers and the attraction of additional resources to implement the Fingal County Childcare Strategy.
The Fingal Childcare Committee received core funding (given to all 33 county and city childcare committees) of €63,500 and was approved for €88,882 in September of this year to implement it’s year 1 action plan.
€37,633,451 in funding has been allocated directly to childcare providers in Dublin, through capital and staffing grants to community and capital grants to private providers.
