Launch of information booklet on Alzheimer’s Disease ‘Alzheimer’s Disease: No Time to Lose’
Mr Seán Power, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, with special responsibility for services for Older People today, ( 8 April 2005) attended the launch of an information booklet entitled ‘Alzheimer’s Disease: No Time to Lose’.
The booklet will provide detailed and concise information on Alzheimer’s Disease and follows on from a successful cinema campaign in December 2004 highlighting the condition by many well-known faces, including former Taoiseach Dr Garret Fitzgerald.
The booklet will be available from all health authorities, health centres, libraries, consultants and GP surgeries throughout Ireland.
“Dementia presents a significant and growing challenge to health and social services due to the increasingly ageing population, with people nowadays living longer and having a life expectancy in the mid-70s and, as a consequence, being more likely to develop dementia. Knowing where to turn for information, services and support is paramount to being able to cope with Alzheimer’s disease” stated the Minister.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to the provision of support and service improvement for people with Dementia and for their carers.
Minister Power concluded by paying tribute to, and acknowledging fully, the contribution made by everyone involved in compiling this booklet.
