The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney TD, today (8 May, 2008) welcomed the initiative by the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) to invite the nursing unions (PNA and SIPTU ) and health service employers to exploratory talks tomorrow aimed at finding a basis for the settlement of the psychiatric nurses’ dispute.

The Minister expressed her deep concern at the adverse impact of the dispute on the care of psychiatric patients. She appealed to the two nursing unions involved to suspend their industrial action in order to minimise hardship to patients and their families while the talks process at the LRC gets under way.
