Hanafin announces €45,000 to the ISPCC to fund Review of Childline
Mary Hanafin, T.D., Minister for Children today (Sunday 3 March) announced a grant of €45,000 (£35,440.38) to the ISPCC to fund an independent review of its childline service. This follows the release of call statistics by the ISPCC which indicate that 735,000 calls were made to childline in 2001, of which 70,334 were answered. ISPCC has announced its intention to commission an independent review as part of its decision to expand its service in the light of these figures.
Minister Hanafin, in announcing the decision said “it is essential to review how Childline is meeting the needs of the children who call it, and how best to respond to the level of demand that has now been identified. The funding for the review is being provided under the National Children´s Strategy, the first goal of which is to give children a voice”.
She went on to say that she welcomed the Society´s continuing commitment to independent review of all its services to ensure their effectiveness.
