Discharge planning from Acute Hospitals in the Eastern Regional Health Authority
At the request of Mr Micheál Martin T.D., Minister for Health and Children, officials from the Department of Health and Children and the Eastern Regional Health Authority met today (Thursday 21/02/02) to discuss a number of possible measures to deal with the current problems in Acute Hospitals, particularly in Accident and Emergency Departments.
A number of initiatives have been agreed which will facilitate the acceleration of provision of services to support patients being discharged from hospitals to a more appropriate level of care within the Eastern Region.
- These include the funding of additional community beds and the extension of community support services.
- The cost of these initiatives will be met from within current resources.
- It is expected that the implementation of these initiatives will result in a significant improvement in the current situation.
