Coombe Women´s Hospital – Major Development Announced by Martin
Micheál Martin, Minister for Health and Children gives go-ahead for a major capital development at the Coombe Women´s Hospital, Dublin.
Micheál Martin, Minister for Health and Children, recently announced his approval to the selection and appointment of a design team to commence planning for a major capital development at the Coombe Women´s Hospital, Dublin.
The development will comprise, inter alia:
- An extension and renovation of the existing ICU;
- A new theatre suite for caesarean sections;
- A new day assessment / foetal monitoring unit;
- An unltra sound suite comprising two dedicated purpose-built rooms;
- Ward renovation / extension;
- A reconfiguration of existing delivery suites.
“The number of births at the Hospital increased by almost 10% over the past four years while there was an overall increase in the number of births in the combined Dublin hospitals of just over 5% for the same period”, the Minister said. He added that the Coombe also assumed responsibility from the National Maternity Hospital for the provision of services at a clinic in Naas in July 2001.The number of births associated with the clinic amount to 400 per annum.
“The project represents a major Government investment in public hospital infrastructure and will herald a new era for the Coombe Women´s Hospital and for the provision of maternity services in south west Dublin and Kildare. This project, with an indicative cost of €15.11million, will be funded by the National Development Plan and demonstrated this Government´s commitment to the process of planning services for pregnant women, mothers and babies in hospitals and the community.”
