Contractors appointed for Rotunda Hospital £6million Development Programme
Mr Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children today (10th September 2001) announced approval for the appointment of contractors to proceed with a major capital development programme at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.
These works will comprise an amalgamation of the Paediatric Unit with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit into a new centralised department. The third floor of the Hospital will also be extended and refurbished. It is estimated that the total cost of the project will exceed £6m, of which £2m will be donated by the hospital. Construction work is expected to commence shortly.
“I am delighted to be associated with this important new development which will greatly strengthen the excellent services currently available at the Rotunda Hospital. I am confident that it will allow the hospital to cope more effectively with its increased workload and its future needs. It will facilitate the provision of maternity and paediatric services within an enhanced environment for patients, staff and visitors attending the hospital,” said the Minister.
The Taoiseach, Mr Bertie Ahern TD, on a visit to the hospital today took the opportunity to congratulate the hospital for its sterling fundraising efforts in helping to raise £2m towards the cost of the development.
